Where I Have Lived & Worked

Iraq
4 Years Resident
Iraq — Erbil, Mosul & Beyond
Four years based in Iraq gave me deep roots across Kurdish and Arab communities, military structures, government contacts and civil society. I developed networks across the Kurdistan Region, Ninewa, Baghdad and frontline areas that proved essential for sourcing, access and safe movement in one of the world’s most complex operating environments.
Syria
1 Year Resident
Syria — Raqqa, Deir ez-Zor & North-East
A year working inside Syria — particularly in the post-ISIS north-east — required building trust rapidly with Kurdish-led forces, local councils and civilian communities in an environment with overlapping armed actors. I maintained contacts across the Syrian Democratic Forces and humanitarian networks operating in the region.
Lebanon
1 Year Resident
Beirut & the South
Based in Beirut during a period of acute political and economic crisis, including the immediate aftermath of the port explosion. I built contacts across political, security and civil society sectors and developed logistical pipelines for crews operating in Lebanon and into neighbouring Syria.
Ukraine
9 Months Resident
Ukraine — Kyiv, East & South
Nine months in Ukraine from the opening weeks of the full-scale Russian invasion, including during the encirclement of Kyiv. I was operating on the ground as Russian forces advanced on the capital and built contacts across Ukrainian military, territorial defence units and the international press corps working the story.
Iraq · High-Risk Access
9-Month Operation · 2016 – 2017
The Liberation of Mosul — Embedded Frontline Access
During the nine-month coalition and Iraqi Security Forces operation to retake Mosul from ISIS, I regularly facilitated access for international media teams — including broadcast crews and photographers — to operational frontlines inside the city. This meant coordinating with Iraqi military commanders, Peshmerga units and federal police, managing movement in active combat zones, and ensuring teams could reach the story safely and return safely. This is among the most demanding fixing work I have undertaken: sustained, high-stakes access over the full duration of one of the most complex urban battles of the modern era.
Ukraine · High-Risk Access
February – April 2022
The Encirclement of Kyiv — On the Ground as Russia Advanced
I was present in and around Kyiv during the Russian encirclement in the opening weeks of the 2022 invasion — one of the highest-risk periods for any journalist or media team operating in Europe in decades. Working in that environment required constant reassessment of routes, contacts and safe movement corridors as the front shifted rapidly. The experience of operating during an active encirclement of a capital city — managing logistics, sourcing and access under genuine threat — is directly relevant to teams requiring fixing and field coordination in extreme situations.
Services

What I can do for your team.

Fixing is not a secondary service — it is the thing that determines whether a team gets the story or doesn’t. Having spent over six years resident across Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Ukraine, I offer a depth of local knowledge, trusted contacts and operational experience that goes well beyond what a short-deployment fixer can provide.

I work with broadcast crews, print correspondents, documentary teams and photographers. My strongest value is in high-risk and complex environments where access is difficult, movement requires careful coordination, and the margin for error is small.

01
Frontline & Restricted Access
Coordinating access to military units, frontline positions and restricted areas through established relationships with commanders, press offices and local authorities. Built over years in Iraq and Ukraine, not assembled at short notice.
02
Translation & Interpretation
Access to trusted translators across Arabic (Iraqi and Syrian dialect), Kurdish (Sorani and Kurmanji), and Ukrainian — vetted through years of working relationships, not hired off a list.
03
Logistics & Movement Planning
Safe routing, driver networks, accommodation, equipment movement and contingency planning for teams operating in active conflict zones or post-conflict environments with unstable infrastructure.
04
Source Development & Interview Facilitation
Connecting teams with relevant military, political, humanitarian and civilian sources — across Iraqi, Kurdish, Syrian, Lebanese and Ukrainian networks built through sustained residency and reporting relationships.
05
Security & Risk Assessment
Ongoing situational awareness, route risk assessment and dynamic threat monitoring for teams in high-risk environments. Practical, not theoretical — based on experience operating in active combat zones over an extended period.
06
Pre-Deployment Advisory
Briefings for correspondents and production teams preparing to deploy — covering the current situation on the ground, key actors, cultural considerations, and operational planning before travel.
